Your Digital Nonprofit: The Social Profit Stack

Being everywhere online is the fastest way to disappear 🫠

Hey Reader,

Sarah used to do what almost every fundraiser does online.

She tried to be present everywhere all at once. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok.

You name it, she was there.

She posted frequently, but without a clear plan, she never knew if her audience was paying attention.

And you can guess what happened.

-Low engagement.

-Zero momentum.

-Frustration.

It wasn’t that she didn’t care. She worked hard. But sharing content into what felt like a void didn’t do her any favours.

All that effort was never going to get the results she needed.

How could she approach her Executive Director to ask for more budget? Or even better tools?

When Sarah asked me, I could see the problem right away.

She was blending in with the noise.

Once she started to see it, everything changed.

Instead of trying to be everywhere, she got strategic.

In today’s edition of the Social Profit Stack, we’re looking at why spreading yourself across every platform hurts your digital presence—and what to do instead to actually stand out.

What does standing out online actually mean?

Most nonprofit teams fall into the trap of thinking more platforms = more reach.

But when you’re everywhere, you dilute your presence. Instead of standing out, you blend in, adding only to the noise.

And your donors? They don’t know where to find you or why they should care.

When Sarah stepped back and looked at her full digital presence: website, email marketing, four social media accounts, and countless landing pages, it was easy to understood why she wasn’t standing out.

So she made a bold shift.

For engagement, she chose email and one social media channel and dropped the rest.

She built a clear, consistent message that helped her nonprofit finally stand out from the crowd.

Instantly it was a breath of fresh air.

She started showing up with confidence.

And the results came fast.

More engagement. More sign-ups. More donations coming through.

All because she stopped making the mistake most of us make—and started owning her space online.

Pulling back doesn’t mean doing less.

It means doing the right things more intentionally.

Start out by using one six ways you can focus your digital presence and start seeing real results:

  1. Choose your platforms wisely. Focus on 1–2 places where your donors already spend their time.
  2. Clarify your message. Make your content clear on how your nonprofit supports the community and why it matters.
  3. Always create trust. Show donors the difference they’re making with every gift.
  4. Simplify the giving experience. Add personalization and remove friction so giving feels easy, fast, and rewarding. Continue to thank and steward your donors.
  5. Share compelling stories. Stories connect emotionally, boost engagement, and show your impact in action.
  6. Set a clear goal. Give donors a sense of urgency and a finish line they can help you cross.

The difference is when you stop trying to be everywhere.

When Sarah shifted her focus from scattering her energy to showing up in the right places, engagement increased, the email list grew, and donations started flowing in.

The same can be true for you.

When you lead donors with more clarity and purpose, they’ll feel it.

And you? You’ll finally stop feeling like you’re posting into the void.
