How Google Maps Helped Me Focus On Your Digital Fundraising 📍

I don't like to admit it, but sometimes I get a little off-track with this newsletter.

I get excited about ideas and end up veering off-course.

But at the end of the day, it's about one thing: helping you elevate your digital fundraising.

It’s a little like driving with Google Maps.

You know the destination, but sometimes you accidentally take a detour.

Or you get distracted or take the scenic route.

But then Google is screaming at you to say: “Recalculating…”

That’s me right now. Getting back on track.

Making sure these emails continue giving you ideas, clarity, and momentum with your online fundraising strategy.

Recalculating isn’t a bad thing.

It’s often how we find a better route.

Speaking of better routes, with year-end campaigns approaching at breakneck speed, now's the perfect time to recalculate your digital strategy.

Here’s the good news: you don’t have to overhaul everything.

In fact, the best thing you can do right now is practice and experiment.

Grab these three ideas and give them a try before mid-October:

1. Tinker with your subject lines when you create your next email.

Most of us stick with the same style over and over. I’m guilty of this.

It’s easier, right?

But sometimes the smallest tweak makes the biggest difference.

Try a question or something short and punchy.

My favourite approach? Use subject lines that spark curiosity.

The goal is to see what actually grabs your audience’s attention.

If you see your open rate go up, you know you're on the right path.

2. Test a different story arc in your appeal.

Instead of only asking for support, build in a journey.

Start with a challenge, introduce the person or cause, then show the transformation donors can make possible.

Stories are what connect, and year-end is when you want that connection to be strongest.

3. Switch up the layout of your donation page.

Small changes often add up to surprising results.

Test your button colour, the order of your giving levels, or how you frame impact (“$50 provides ___”).

Your page isn’t just a form. It’s where your story becomes action.

Think of these as “practice laps.”

The data you gather now will make your year-end campaigns more efficient, smoother, and effective.

Because once November hits, you don’t want to be testing. You want to be executing with confidence.
